Tips for staying safe from fraud

When you’re using your RoosterMoney account:

  • Make sure your device is up-to-date
  • Use secure wifi networks that ask for a password
  • Use strong passwords and make sure they’re different from your other passwords
  • Don’t share any passwords (including your passcode and PIN)

When you’re using apps:

  • Only install apps from the app store
  • Check the ratings and reviews of the app
  • Make sure you know what permissions and information you’re giving the app

When shopping online or in a shop:

  • When buying something from a website for the first time, research them and check they are a real company
  • Don’t reply to unwanted or random emails from people you don’t recognise
  • Before entering your card details, make sure the website is secure. There should be a padlock symbol next to the website address in your browser. If this appears on the page rather than in the browser it may mean the website is untrustworthy. The web address should begin with “https://”. The “s” stands for secure.
  • Always log out of websites when you’ve finished using them. Closing your browser is not enough to ensure your data is safe!
  • Keep your PIN safe and do not share it
  • When entering your PIN, check for people around you and cover your PIN number with your hand
  • Always check your statements for transactions you don’t recognise
