Katy & Rob Todd-Wild use RoosterMoney with their three kids (Alex, 8, Sophia, 8 & Jake, 4) to help manage their pocket money and chores routine. We asked them a few question to find out how they make the most out of RoosterMoney, so you might be able to pick up a few tips for your family.

1. Did you give pocket money before starting RoosterMoney? πŸ’°

Yes, we used to try theΒ  cash in a pot system but we ended up often dipping into it for things like our own bus fares, or if we didn’t have the cash on us at the time.

2. Why did you start using RoosterMoney? πŸ“²

I thought we’d give it a go when the kids got their own phones, and I wanted to be able to give them money without actually having the cash on me.

3. How do you use RoosterMoney in your family? πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

They each get their own allowance, but they have a list of chores they have to do first, and if they don’t do them they lose some, if they do extra they get extra. At the end of the month we see what they’ve earned and give them the cash to put in their purse/wallet. If they want anything, we’ll buy it for them, and then they’ll give us the cash which we put into a ‘safe’ for our savings.

“They each get their own allowance, but they have a list of chores they have to do first, and if they don’t do them they loose some, if they do extra they get extra.”

4. What chores routine do you follow in your house? 🧹

They all have chores to do each day and a couple each week. If they don’t do them they don’t get the full allowance, which mainly affects things like keeping the bedroom tidy and making their beds. They can also earn extra for added chores like helping with washing or gardening. They then get paid at the end of the month.

5. What do your kids spend most of their money on? πŸ’Έ

They are actually quite good at keeping it for the bigger item they are saving at that time, and those things are normally linked to the hobbies they have. They also like to spend on treats but will always get for the whole family as a gift.

“Trial and error, we have found we needed to change things about until we found what worked best for us.”

6. What’s your favourite feature in the app? πŸ“²

Keeping track of chores and what they have earned each month so we know how much to give them.

7. Any tips for our readers on how to manage a successful chores routine? πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“

Trial and error, we have found we needed to change things about until we found what worked best for us. Take your time to look at each thing, it took a couple of months to get things set up the best way for us.

“They are slowly getting a better understanding of how much things cost and that they have to work for money.”

8. How has RoosterMoney helped you as a parent? Has it made life easier? πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ

It’s helped us keep track of things better as we never had the actual cash to give them each time they did chores before.

10. Has RoosterMoney changed your kids' understanding of money? πŸŽ“

They are slowly getting a better understanding of how much things cost and that they have to work for money. Very good of saving for the bigger things.

11. Give us your top pocket money or chores tip to share! ✍️

Take your time to set things up, what works for one family won’t always work for others.
