Over the first school term of 2025, we dug into the data to check out what kids were saving their money for using our savings pot feature. We found a huge range of savings goals kids created for themselves. From dreaming big and saving up for luxury sports cars, to heartwarming plans to save money for their parents.
How many savings pots did kids use?
Kids with the Rooster Card interacted with a whopping 82,657 savings pots over the first school term of 2025. Some of our favourites were about taking trips to Australia, buying a set of bagpipes, and some very specific Lego sets.
What time of day are kids most likely to squirrel away their savings?
We discovered that both Saturday and Sunday from the late morning into the early afternoon were the most popular days that kids would stash away their hard earned money, while Tuesdays saw the least activity.
During the week, there was a consistent spike around 3pm as kids finished up at school. Maybe talking about the latest upcoming games, toys, and magazines with their friends gets them raring to save?
What are the most popular saving pots?
So, the big one. We found that holidays, then gaming currencies such as for the video games Roblox and Fortnite took the top spots for kids’ first term of school savings pots.

How do I set up a savings pot for my child?
Any child or parent on Rooster Money can set up savings pots – and we know that for kids to get involved in anything, it needs to be fun. That’s why we recently made huge changes to savings pots – making them easier to use and make their own.
From setting a goal amount to watch their progress, choosing a pot colour and their own photo to really make it their own, to flipping their pots between their photo and goal amount for that little bit of motivation, there’s plenty to get your kids on the path to becoming super savers. Select savings pot
Follow the instructions, such as adding the name, amount, and choose a picture for their goal.
