Whether it’s to mainland Europe or further afield, here’s all you need to know about travelling abroad with the Rooster Card and how it could help your kids.
🩴 Flip(flop) the switch
Using the Rooster Card abroad is easy, as it works just like any regular debit card. For your kids to make contactless or chip & pin payments abroad, all you need to do is turn on ‘Spending abroad’ in the card settings. Just tap ‘Card’ beneath your child’s name, select ‘Card settings’, and turn it from off to on. Simple!
P.s – you can also turn contactless on or off from the same screen.
🛫 Don’t miss your transfer…
Kids overspent on ice-cream? Don’t worry – UK bank accounts (like the bank of mum and dad!) can make up to 3 free transfers a day and ten per month to the Parent Account, so you can add it to their Rooster Card. That means your kids can stay topped-up for their holiday treats.
Please see our fees and limits page, and payment t&cs for more information.
⚓️ Don’t go overboard
The Rooster Card allows kids to spend overseas with no foreign transaction fees on purchases. That could provide them plenty of money for poolside treats, or gifts for friends – plus, they can use it anywhere that accepts VISA cards.
However, if you want to limit their spending, you could set up a daily, weekly, or monthly spend limit via the card settings.
Rooster Card payments are subject to our fair usage limits
Local fees and ATM charges may apply.
🌞 Freeze – even in the heat
We get it – kids will be kids. If they lose their card during the excitement of their holiday, there’s no need to worry about someone else getting to spend their hard-earned pocket money. Just head to the app, tap ‘Card’ beneath your child’s name, and switch ‘Card active’ from on to off.
Find it in a pile of swimsuits, or hidden in a sandcastle? Simply switch the same setting from off to on to thaw the card instantly.
If you don’t find it, don’t worry! You can order a replacement Rooster Card via the app. Find out how here.
